Forest overcome Porto to book Europa League semi-final against Villa
Nottingham Forest beats Porto 2-1 on aggregate to reach Europa League semi-finals!
The SEC baseball season has shown significant parity, with 10 teams both sweeping and being swept in series. Currently, 11 teams are closely matched with records of either 8-7 or 7-8 halfway through conference play.
SEC baseball power rankings, parity rules with conference play halfway through
Parity is the name of the game in the SEC this season. Just five weeks into SEC play, 10 teams have already both swept a series and been swept. Several of those sweeps have been on the road, with many teams struggling to find consistency week to week. Eleven teams are either 8-7 or 7-8.
A team winning every SEC series has happened just twice and a team losing every SEC series has not happened since the conference went to 10 series. That will continue for another year, as both of the top two teams took their first series loss this weekend and South Carolina got its first series win.
Here's how the league shakes out:
Record: 27-7 (9-5 SEC)
Last week: 1
Up next: Alabama
Both Texas and Georgia lost their first SEC series of the season this weekend, but the Longhorns were on the road and lost to a better team, so they maintain the top spot.
Record: 29-8 (11-4)
Last week: 2
Up next: at Arkansas
Georgia has put up a strong performance in SEC play after a so-so non-conference slate, but the Bulldogs this weekend became the latest victim of Jekyll and Hyde Florida.
Record: 27-7 (9-5)
Last week: 6
Up next: at LSU
The Aggies' series win over Texas was cathartic after getting swept a year ago, though the series finale was canceled due to rain. Texas A&M has had the SEC's most productive offense and the pitching is improving.
Record: 24-11 (8-7)
Last week: 5
Up next: at Florida
In a season of inconsistent performances, Auburn has a relatively consistent profile. The pitching remains excellent, but the Tigers' success depends on how much they can get out of their offense.
Record: 27-10 (9-6)
Last week: 4
Up next: at Texas
Alabama came back down to earth a bit in a home sweep at the hands of Arkansas, but the Crimson Tide are still holding strong for a potential host spot.
Record: 27-10 (9-6)
Last week: 7
Up next: Auburn
Good luck trying to project any series involving Florida, which has been one of the SEC's most volatile teams this season. Brendan Lawson has been the SEC's top hitter statistically, but he hasn't always gotten a ton of help from his teammates.
Record: 26-10 (7-8)
Last week: 3
Up next: at South Carolina
After looking like one of the SEC's best teams through the first few weeks, the Bulldogs have now been swept at home in back-to-back series.
Record: 24-13 (8-7)
Last week: 8
Up next: Georgia
Arkansas got back on track with its road sweep of Alabama. The Razorbacks are solid, but they don't stand out in any one area, making it difficult for them to differentiate themselves.
Record: 26-11 (8-7)
Last week: 9
Up next: at Tennessee
Ole Miss, which has one of the SEC's most difficult schedules this season, solidified its positioning with a weekend sweep of LSU.
Record: 24-11 (7-8)
Last week: 10
Up next: Missouri
Oklahoma, one of just three SEC teams to not sweep a conference series this season, has nevertheless won more series than it's lost and been competitive in almost every game.
Record: 24-12 (7-8)
Last week: 12
Up next: Ole Miss
The Vols got a much-needed series sweep at Mississippi State. They've gotten a lead in almost all their SEC games, but a finicky bullpen has let them down at times.
Record: 21-16 (7-8)
Last week: 11
Up next: at Kentucky
