SEC foe trying to flip Oklahoma QB commit

The Oklahoma Sooners landed the commitment of four-star class of 2027 quarterback prospect Jamison Roberts out of Mobile, Alabama, back on March 7th. While the Saraland High School product's pledge to OU still looks strong, the 6-foot-2, 212-pound QB is being heavily pursued by another SEC program.

According to DawgsHQ's Rusty Mansell, Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo visited Roberts on Monday, as it looks like the Dawgs are hoping to flip the passer from Norman to Athens. Bobo and quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter will have their work cut out for them if they want to pull off the heist, but the Sooners will still need to be wary of UGA's advances.

Roberts has been pursued by many SEC schools, including Georgia and their entire coaching staff, throughout his entire recruiting process. Oklahoma offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle and quarterbacks coach John Kuceyeski will look to hang on to Roberts and sign him in early December. OU already has two decommits in the '27 class, as defensive lineman Zane Rowe is now pledged to Oregon, and running back Jaxsen Stokes is now pledged to Cal. Oklahoma must keep Roberts, their preferred signal-caller in the class, from joining that list.

The Sooners have Roberts scheduled for an official visit on June 12th, but the Bulldogs might present an opportunity to get on the field earlier. At Oklahoma, Roberts would have to wait his turn behind Bowe Bentley, who is the heir apparent to senior John Mateer. However, he'd potentially be in the mix, along with Bryson Beaver from the '26 class, to replace senior Gunner Stockton at Georgia as early as his true freshman season. The Bulldogs, who are also pursuing quarterback Peter Bourque out of Massachusetts, are hoping to join the Sooners on Roberts' official visit list, and OU wants to keep that from happening.

Oklahoma was all-in on Roberts in the months leading up to his commitment, and losing him would be very detrimental to OU's strong 2027 recruiting class. As far as other passers in the '27 class, former offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Seth Littrell had interest in Trae Taylor (Nebraska commit) and Caden Jones, but Arbuckle hasn't pursued either since he got the job. Arbuckle's initial choice in the class was Peyton Houston, but after Houston chose hometown LSU over OU, Arbuckle moved on. He showed interest in Dane Weber, but passed. Oklahoma has offered Jonathan Moore and has a pledge from Greydon Howell, but the Sooners likely see them playing defensive back and wide receiver, respectively, at the college level.
