SEC Softball Tournament 2026: Ole Miss stuns Tennessee, faces Texas in quarters

When it mattered a whole heck of a lot, Ole Miss’ pitching staff delivered another gem in the SEC Softball Tournament in a 4-1 win over the 5-seed Tennessee Volunteers.

The Rebels (34-23) used a two run RBI from Madi George to grab the lead and never relinquish it from the Vols (42-10). The win also moved Ole Miss up two spots in the latest RPI rankings to now No. 19 in the country.

Kyra Aycock pitched four strong innings of one run ball before handing the circle over to Emilee Boyer who was coming off a complete game shutout on Tuesday. Boyer pitched three more shutout innings to now have a 10-inning streak with no runs scored in this tournament.

A very tough test now awaits for the Rebels with the 4-seed Texas Longhorns (39-10) who swept Ole Miss during the regular season. The winner of this game likely sets up a Friday evening game with the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners, so at this point it is a very tough road to the SEC Championship Game.

In the three games against Texas, Ole Miss was not its characteristic self and unable to score many runs with a 3-1, 11-2 and 15-3 set of finals in that series. It is going to take more than three runs to dispatch this Longhorns team as they average nearly 7.5 runs per game while allowing less than three this season.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT, but it could be a tad later depending on the game before it between Alabama and Arkansas. The game will be broadcast live on SEC Network.
