Twenty-one years after Jason Campbell played in Mobile’s annual all-star football game, the former Auburn quarterback joined the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame on Sunday night.
“It’s wild that it’s been that long, first and foremost,” Campbell said shortly before the induction ceremony at the Grand Hotel Golf Resort and Spa in Point Clear. “Time flies. But it’s a great honor, and all glory to God for this opportunity.
“But I remember coming down to the Senior Bowl, and it was a special week. You got to meet a lot of GMs, a lot of owners and coaches and everybody, and it’s a great opportunity to interview. And so the Senior Bowl puts on a great event each and every year.
“It was one of my dream games that I always wanted to play in. Even when I was a kid, the Senior Bowl was something I definitely wanted to have an opportunity to participate in.”
While Campbell needed to look back across two decades for his Senior Bowl experience, the Hall of Fame reached back more than five decades for one of his classmates.
Boston University quarterback Harry Agganis won the Most Valuable Player Award for the fourth Senior Bowl in 1953 and entered the all-star game’s Hall of Fame as a posthumous enshrinee on Sunday.
Joining Campbell for the ceremony to complete the Class of 2026 were Alabama safety Roman Harper, a former Prattville High School star; LSU defensive tackle Anthony “Booger” McFarland and Norv Turner.

Turner is the eighth Senior Bowl Hall of Fame member enshrined for his work as an NFL coach, After working on Senior Bowl coaching staffs as an NFL assistant, Turner served as a head coach in three games, with his team posting a victory each time – in 1997, 1998 and 2005.
“It’s having the best players,” Turner said of his secret to winning. “But I think the first time I coached this was with John Robinson, and he said, ‘We’re going to treat this like our team, and we’re going to go in there and give these players a chance to show their abilities because that’s what it’s about.’

“The slogan now is: The draft starts here. It’s a great slogan because it does, and it’s the first chance for coaches who’ve been coaching all year to see these players. Well, if you’re coaching the game, it’s a really great chance to see them. But he stressed, ‘I want you guys coaching, and I want you guys getting these guys ready to play. I want you to put a good game plan together for them so they can have success, but they can be comfortable playing so they can show their best.’ So I think that’s the key.”
McFarland played in the 1999 Senior Bowl and Harper played in the 2006 Senior Bowl before launching their NFL careers.
Campbell, Harper and McFarland overlapped in the NFL during the 2006 season.
Mike Agganis represented his uncle at the induction banquet. Harry Agganis played professional baseball instead of football after the Senior Bowl, and he was hitting .313 for the Boston Red Sox in 1955 when he died from a pulmonary embolism.
The Senior Bowl Hall of Fame’s 35th induction class brought the all-star roster to 148 enshrinees.
Also recognized on Sunday night were the Senior Bowl’s selections for its Rookie of the Year honors for the 2025 NFL season – New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough, the NFL Rookie of the Year; Seattle Seahawks guard Grey Zabel, the NFC Rookie of the Year; and Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey, the AFC Rookie of the Year.
The sixth annual Senior Bowl Charities Celebrity Golf Classic will be held on Monday at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear. The golf event pairs more than 20 foursomes with celebrities from the football world, including the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame inductees.
Proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the Mobile Baldwin Athletic Partnership, established in 2021. This program provides resources ranging from pants and jerseys to blocking sleds and video technology for underfunded public high school football programs in the two-county area.
