Senna Agius is being tipped as Australia’s next big hope in the MotoGP paddock, with talk of a debut coming as early as 2027 amid links to both Pramac and KTM.
His rise through Moto2 hasn’t gone unnoticed. Since breaking into the class full-time in 2024, following wildcard appearances in 2022 and 2023, Agius has steadily worked his way into the front group.
Agius’ performances have now put him on the radar for a possible step up to MotoGP by 2027. He’s being mentioned as a candidate for a seat with the satellite Yamaha team Pramac, and there’s also been speculation about interest from KTM.

By mid-2026, there were reports suggesting that Agius could join Pramac for the following year. At the same time, Yamaha were believed to be considering promoting Toprak Razgatlioglu from Pramac to their factory squad. Around then it also became clear that KTM were showing interest too.
KTM might have the inside track here, thanks to Mike Leitner’s role behind the scenes at LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP – the team where Agius currently rides in Moto2. His direct experience with Agius could be an influence on any future offers.
If he does get picked up by either team ahead of 2027, he’d become just the eighth Australian ever to race full-time in MotoGP – joining a list that includes names like Jack Miller and Casey Stoner.
There has been a growing interest in Senna Agius from the MotoGP paddock, largely thanks to his composure and confidence on track. The Australian has shown maturity beyond his years, having moved to Europe in 2018 to pursue a racing career seriously.

He caught the attention of team bosses during his replacement appearances in 2022 and 2023. That led Marc VDS and later Intact GP to bring him into the world championship after he quickly rose through the ranks of the European series.
Agius made his mark in the European series almost straight away. He finished second in 2022 after reaching the podium in nine of his 11 races, including two wins. In 2023, he went one better, dominating with eight wins from nine races and a third-place finish to claim the title.
His breakthrough on the world stage came when Intact GP handed him a full-time seat in 2024. It took some time for him to find his feet, but by 2025 he had secured his first win at Silverstone before adding another victory at Phillip Island later that year.
Before moving into Moto2, Agius had a spell in the Australian Superbike Championship. He made his debut at Phillip Island in 2022, later scoring a podium finish at The Bend during his stint.
Agius’ path to professional racing started on dirt tracks. Growing up on a farm with a built-in motocross circuit, he first developed his skills off-road before injuries and a growing interest in road racing shifted his focus to the tarmac.
“From around six to 10 years old, I was a motocrosser,” Agius told Australian Motorcycle News back in 2023. “We moved onto a farm with a motocross track. I was racing for KTM in the national motocross championship at the time.
“I was going to be a motocrosser, was totally in love with it and then a few things happened. [I had] a few injuries and [saw] what my brother was doing at the time. I wanted to try road racing. As soon as I did it, it was like flicking a light switch over to the bitumen.”

Unlike others who happen to share names with famous figures by coincidence, Senna Agius was deliberately named after the legendary Brazilian F1 driver Ayrton Senna.
“Yes, I’m named after Ayrton Senna,” Agius told Fox Sports in March 2026 while previewing the first MotoGP Brazilian Grand Prix since 1992 at Goiania.
“That’s cool [to be] going there. When the Brazil race got announced, I got a load of social media following and likes from all these Ayrton Senna fan accounts.
“I’ve honestly never been anywhere close to that part of the world in my life, and the track looks super cool, a new facility for everybody. And where Ayrton Senna was from, so for me and my dad – it’s exciting.”
