After mathematically securing Serie A survival, Genoa head into the season finale with nothing but pride left to play for. Indeed, Daniele De Rossi’s men have staved off relegation fears, while they cannot fight for a top-half finish, trailing 10th-placed Udinese by nine points.
Nevertheless, they could still make Milan’s life complicated here, and after holding Atalanta and Fiorentina to a pair of scoreless draws, it’s hard to put it past the Griffins to add to their visitors’ misery. However, Milan must find a way to return to winning ways, with their season at risk of fizzling out.
Back-to-back defeats at the hands of Sassuolo and Atalanta have left Massimiliano Allegri’s side narrowly ahead of fifth-placed Roma. Indeed, there’s nothing but a superior head-to-head record to separate the two sides ahead of Sunday’s kickoff.

Despite spending the entire season in Serie A’s lower reaches, Genoa have achieved their top target, avoiding the drop with a handful of games to spare. Therefore, the Griffins are staring down the barrel of four successive scoring blanks in Serie A for the first time since February 2022. Eager to avoid equaling that unwanted feat, Genoa can find courage in the fact that they’ve scored at least two goals in six of their last eight outings at the Luigi Ferraris.
There’s another reason for concern, given that De Rossi’s charges have suffered seven league defeats in nine home matches against sides currently sitting in the top ten (W2). Milan’s visit threatens to worsen that record, with Genoa failing to beat this opposition in their last ten meetings (D4, L6).

Late goals from Strahinja Pavlovic and Christopher Nkunku failed to salvage a point against Atalanta last time out, putting Milan at risk of losing three consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since March 2025. Moreover, the Rossoneri have now lost four of their last six league games (W1, D1), underlining the depth of the crisis at San Siro.
On that basis, it’s unsurprising that their Champions League hopes are hanging in the balance. However, Allegri must find a way to prevent further slide and address his side’s travel sickness. Milan have suffered three defeats across their last four Serie A road trips (W1), failing to score in each of those losses.
On a more positive note, the 19-time Italian champions have not lost any of their eight away league clashes against sides currently sitting 12th or lower (W6, D2). It’s also worth noting that they’ve amassed a league-high 14 points from losing positions this season (W3, D5, L7).
Team News
Genoa will be missing several first-team stars this weekend, including former Milan forward Junior Messias. Sought-after wingback Brooke Norton-Cuffy is also in the treatment room, alongside the likes of Tommaso Baldanzi and Maxwel Cornet. All eyes will be on Lorenzo Colombo, who tops the club’s scoring charts with seven Serie A goals.
On the other hand, Milan will be without both starting forwards, Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic. Furthermore, Pervis Estupinan and Alexis Saelemaekers must serve a one-game suspension after accumulating yellow cards.
