Seven run fourth inning lifts Washington Nationals to 14-2 victory over Mets
After getting blanked on Tuesday night, the Nationals got their revenge in game two of the three-game series after defeating the Mets 14-2 on Wednesday night.
CJ Abrams got things started for the Nationals early on in the first inning after a single to right gave James Wood the first run of the night. Curtis Mead trailed Wood after Dylan Young grounded out to first putting the Nats up 2-0.
But it was a series of events in the fourth inning that truly ignited the Nationals offensive spark.
Joey Wiemer reached on an infield single to third to give Young the run to push the Nats to 3-1.
Quickly, the bases were soon loaded with Wiemer, Daylen Lile, and Nasim Nuñez.
However, this scene looked all too familiar for Nationals fans with two outs and bases loaded. In typical Nationals fashion, it wouldnât be wrong to accept that the third out was inevitable and the inning would come to a close, but not this time. Something in the crisp and rainy 58 degree air kept the Nationals bases loaded in the fourth.
With the top of the order due, Wood searches for a grand slam to lift the Nats to a comfortable winning position. But Woodâs patience would soon grant him a walk to keep the bases loaded for Mead. However after getting hit by a pitch, Mead would also walk.
The Washington Nationals won the game against the New York Mets with a score of 14-2.
The Nationals scored seven runs in the fourth inning, which significantly contributed to their victory.
CJ Abrams and James Wood were key players, with Abrams starting the scoring early in the game.

Now with two walks that forced two runs and kept bases loaded it would be up to Brady House to seal the deal.
In just the second pitch to House, he was able to drill the 89 mph four-seam fastball 385 feet to left center for a Nationals grand slam to bring Nuñez, Wood, and Mead home along with him.
The seven run fourth inning marked the most runs in a single inning for the Nationals so far this season. It also marked the first grand slam for the Nationals this season and the first of Brady Houseâs career.
Despite the bullpen struggles that the Nationals have been facing, right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli had an impressive performance securing his first win of the season. Cavalli was 0-1 with a 4.01 ERA and 28 strikeouts heading into tonight's game.
Cavalli threw for six innings, 97 pitches, eight hits, ten strikeouts, and only gave up two runs to tie his career high.
Defensively the Nationals stepped it up. Ball security looked stronger for the Nats especially considering the light rain conditions they had throughout the game. Wins like these just go to show how resilient the Nationals are after bouncing back from yesterday's shutout.
The Nationals will look to clinch their fourth road series win tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they wrap up the three-game series before heading back home to take on the Brewers.
