Shadasia Green says sheâs recovering in the hospital, and that she did suffer from a brain bleed in this past Saturday nightâs fight with Lani Daniels.
Green was taken from the ring on a stretcher after being stopped in the ninth round. She had looked exhausted and slow in the eighth round, with Daniels taking full control of the fight, and was only able to get up off of her stool to start round nine. She didnât move from her corner, allowing Daniels to come in and unload with a series of punches, eventually forcing referee Eric Dali to step in and stop the fight 24 seconds into the round.
The 36-year-old Green (16-2, 11 KO) lost the IBF and WBO super middleweight titles, but more importantly is getting better after a really scary scene in New York.
âI wanna thank everybody for prayers and (support),â she wrote on social media. I was winning the fight until my injury got the best of me! Iâm current in the hospital in ICU with blood on my brain! ⊠No surgery needed, taking medication to decrease it.â
It remains to be seen if Green will be able to fight again, but itâs not impossible. It would be a risk, obviously, and more likely than not she wonât fight again for at least a year, and states with more demanding or serious medical guidelines may refuse to issue her a license at all.
Whatever does or doesnât happen with her career, itâs great to hear that Shadasia is healing up, and we wish her all the best.
