The door swung wide open on Saturday for someone to make a real charge at Rory McIlroy's historic Masters lead, and what better way to make a charge than a hole-in-one?

Shane Lowry might not have considered a hole-in-one a realistic possibility on the Par 3 sixth hole at Augusta National, but he delivered with one of the most electrifying moments of his career to vault himself into a tie for second.

The hole-in-one wasn't a first for Lowry at the Masters, as he once sunk another ace on a different hole in Augusta a decade earlier.

Lowry sunk a hole-in-one on hole No. 6 at the Masters, making quick work of the Par 3. Here's his shot and celebration:

A hole-in-one is worth celebrating at any stage of the Masters, but it had particular meaning for Lowry as he and the rest of the contenders tried to cut into a sizable McIlroy lead. The ace brought Lowry into a tie for second at 8-under par, four strokes behind McIlroy.

Lowry is only the seventh player to record a hole-in-one at No. 6 in the Masters' 90-year history and the first since Corey Conners in 2021. Lowry previously had an ace at No. 16 in 2016, though holes-in-one are more common at No. 16.
