Chris Wilder Summarises Final Game of the Season

Speaking after the match to SUTV, Wilder praised his side’s resilience: “We had to weather a tough start because they came absolutely roaring out of the traps. We got through that period and got a foothold in the game, and in the second half we were really good; we defended really well, broke the game up and created good chances.

That one was for the supporters, 100%.”

Reflecting on the overall campaign, Wilder did not shy away from the challenges his side have faced.

“It’s been an incredibly challenging season, by far and away the most challenging for me. At other clubs I’ve had to deal with staff not getting paid for six months, administration; this has been incredibly challenging right the way through from the play-off final.

To get through it, 60 points is a reasonable tally. We wanted to get off the bottom of the division, we did that. We wanted to climb the table, we did that, we just stalled and fell a little bit short.

It isn’t easy to pick a team up off the back of what happened and just go and win game after game. The good thing is I’ve known what we need to do; we’re well on the way to doing it, and we’ll be better for it.”

Blades Boss Singles Out Experienced Players For Praise

Wilder also highlighted key individual contributions on the day, he sated: “Bamford was really good, Jairo [Riedewald] when he came on and Joe [Rothwell] added to the young players in the team. I know it’s been difficult and challenging and people will look at 13th and say yeah… but 60 points is respectable in my opinion. We would’ve loved to have taken it to the final day, but we stalled and we haven’t been good enough in moments.”

Sheffield United finished the 25/26 Championship campaign in 13th place with 60 points.
