Oklahoma linebacker Owen Heinecke granted an extra year of eligibility for 2026 after court ruling.
The New York Jets canceled a pre-draft visit with top prospect David Bailey, sparking speculation among fans and media. Concerns about potential injuries or character issues have emerged as possible reasons for the cancellation.
As is often the case, a small move made by the New York Jets quickly turned into a big conversation. No one should be shocked. That's the way the oblong ball bounces sometimes.
According to Sportsnet New York, the organization recently canceled a pre-draft visit with Texas Tech Red Raiders edge rusher David Bailey. As expected, speculation followed almost immediately.
Thatâs usually how this goes, though, isn't it?
Certainly, when a visit is canceled this close to the NFL Draft, fans and media tend to jump to worst-case scenarios. Are there injury concerns? Are there red flags with his character? A failed evaluation? Itâs easy to connect dots that may not actually exist.
In reality, it's important to mention, there's a lot the general public doesn't know here. For starters, timing matters, and several pieces of the puzzle are missing.
No one outside the building knows when that visit was originally scheduled or when the decision to cancel it was made. Itâs entirely possible the Jets gathered the information they needed well before this week or this announcement.
That happens more often than people realize. Teams conduct interviews at the NFL Combine, pro days, private workouts, and virtual meetings. By the time official visits roll around, some prospects are already fully vetted.
If a team feels comfortable with what they know, there may be little reason to continue the process. Thereâs also a strategic element at play. Canceling a visit doesnât necessarily mean interest has faded.
In some cases, it can mean the opposite. Teams donât always want to show their hand, especially when it comes to prospects they genuinely like. Limiting public-facing interactions can sometimes be part of that approach, and then thereâs the simplest explanation.
Schedules change. Priorities shift. Draft boards evolve.
None of that guarantees anything about Baileyâs standing with the Jets, one way or the other. What it does suggest is that this update, while notable, shouldnât be overanalyzed.
The specific reason for the cancellation has not been disclosed, leading to speculation about possible injury concerns or character issues.
Canceling a pre-draft visit can raise red flags for teams regarding a player's health or character, potentially affecting their draft stock.

At this time of year, not every move tells the full story. Sure, there's a chance that the Jets' interest in Bailey may have waned some. It's also possible he's their preferred option with the second overall selection. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah still believes in Bailey so much that he gave the former Red Raider and Arvel Reese elite draft grades.
Sometimes, the loudest reactions are tied to the smallest details, and this feels like one of those moments. Until draft night provides real answers, this is just another reminder that not everything is what it seems this time of year.
