The Cleveland Browns are considering trading quarterback Shedeur Sanders as they prepare for the 2026 NFL offseason. With Deshaun Watson expected to be the starter and the addition of Taylen Green, the quarterback situation is becoming crowded.
The NFL Draft has concluded, and teams are now shifting their focus to the 2026 NFL offseason. Workouts have already begun as teams prepare for minicamps and training camp this summer.
The Cleveland Browns enter this stretch with a new head coach in Todd Monken. He has plenty of work ahead if they want to stack wins in 2026. One of the biggest questions centers on the quarterback position. Reports indicate that Deshaun Watson is the clear favorite to claim the QB1 role in Cleveland.
This comes despite Shedeur Sandersâ popularity with the fan base and his strong work ethic. That raises an important question: should Cleveland trade Sanders now?

A trade could bring back a net-positive return, especially after the Browns selected Taylen Green in the 2026 NFL Draft. His addition creates a crowded quarterback room that also includes Dillon Gabriel.
Many expected Gabriel to be the odd man out. However, the Brownsâ front office will likely prefer to keep the third-round pick or explore trading him instead.
Still, Sanders may offer the best chance to secure a meaningful return. He also has a strong following, and some fans would rather see him land with a more stable franchise than Cleveland.
Thatâs not to say Sanders would automatically succeed elsewhere. Still, itâs worth acknowledging the reality: quarterbacks have rarely thrived in Cleveland, with only a few exceptions.

If Sanders has a better chance to develop outside of Clevelandâand the Browns can secure solid value in returnâtrading him would make sense. Teams like the New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, or even the Green Bay Packers could use him, whether as a starter or a backup.
Ultimately, the Browns will likely keep Sanders for now. The offseason is still young, and a lot can change between now and September.
However, if the Browns truly believe in Watsonâs body of work in Cleveland and view him as their long-term answer, they should strongly consider trading Sanders while his value remains.
The Browns may benefit from trading Sanders due to a crowded quarterback room and the potential for a positive return after drafting Taylen Green.
Deshaun Watson is currently the clear favorite to claim the QB1 role for the Cleveland Browns in 2026.
Taylen Green's addition to the roster complicates the quarterback situation for the Browns, increasing the likelihood of a trade involving Shedeur Sanders.
