New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel finally addressed the elephant in the room: his situation with NFL reporter Dianna Russini.
The New York Post released pictures of the pair at an Arizona resort. Both denied any wrongdoing, but in the past week, Russini resigned from her job at “The Athletic,” and Vrabel finally spoke to the press about it.
Vrabel said he had some difficult discussions with the people in his life, but you have to wonder whether the Patriots will have a difficult discussion with Vrabel about this situation.
Although he never officially admitted to anything, his comments raised eyebrows about why he would say anything at all if, as he has claimed in the past, he had done nothing inappropriate.
But there was no doubt he was referring to his relationship with Russini and whether it went from professional to personal.
While Russini has stepped down from her position, Vrabel has yet to face any consequences; in fact, there were reports that the Patriots were trying to pay off the New York Post not to post Vrabel and Russini pics.
Which leads us to this question: should the Patriots punish Vrabel?
Most people aren’t calling for his firing, but some feel as if Vrabel deserves some kind of reprimand from the team. Maybe a one-game suspension or a fine.
But even with that, in the eyes of some, that still may not be enough to repair the damage that’s already been done to both parties by this controversy.
