York City Mayor Sandie Walker waves to members of the crowd during the York Revolution's season opener against the Lancaster Stormers at WellSpan Park in downtown York, April 21, 2026.
In the chill of the early spring, on a day that marked their earliest start to a season since 2017, the York Revolution arrived to remind York that baseball is back in town.
The two-time defending Atlantic League champions rang in the start of their 2026 season at WellSpan Park on Tuesday night. Despite suffering an 8-4 loss to the Lancaster Stormers, the Revolution spent the evening reveling in last season's success while carrying hope to bring home their third straight league championship.
An announced crowd of 4,056 lined up shoulder to shoulder outside the gates of WellSpan Park in a queue that stretched back to sidewalks lining George Street. Despite the brisk air − on-field temperatures dropped from 60 to 53 degrees without accounting for wind chill by game's end − Revolution faithful flocked to ring in the new season.
"It was definitely a great turnout," Brianna Klinger, the Revolution's community engagement manager, said. "We wish it was a little warmer tonight, but oh well."
As patrons waited outside, a DJ blared music inside the plaza. First Capital Drumline performed sets in the plaza while the gates opened and continued in the stands throughout the night. Breaks between innings were spent having crew members launch t-shirts into the crowd and host races between local children around the basepaths.

And to kick it off, the Revolution arrived in full regalia. After the ceremonial first pitch, Revolution players rode out from center field in a pair of military trucks and a Humvee. Atop the lead truck, starting third baseman Brandon Lewis stood up through the cab's porthole with the 2025 ALPB trophy in one hand while waving to the crowd with another.

Klinger said the trucks were lent to the team by the U.S. Army Barracks in Carlisle. The Revolution has rented Jeeps from the Carlisle barracks for last year's home opener, but Klinger said the trucks let them mix up the entrance a bit.
"With Brandon we were a little worried, because if he touched one little switch while he was up there it would start spinning," Klinger said with a laugh. "Logistics-wise, it's pretty easy though. We have a schedule down to the minute for when and where they need to be."
Klinger and the Revolution staff also made a point to bring in local entertainment for season opener. Local singer, Navy veteran and former Madison Rising lead vocalist Dave Bray, was brought in to sing the national anthem.
Bray was one of a handful of candidates Klinger and her team had pitched to sing the anthem. Littlestown native Aubrey Nicole, who placed fourth place in Season 28 of NBC's The Voice, was another potential pick.
"I actually recently saw Dave at the Outdoor Show, where he did the national anthem," Klinger said. "So I was like, 'Let's just try it.' We shot in the dark and messaged his website, and they got back to us almost immediately saying 'Yeah, let's do it.'"

Terry Savage doesn't mind the roar of a cannon. He's used to it.
Standing at his post at Cannonball's Corner just over the right center field fence, Savage is dressed in full colonial attire − tricorne hat, blue overcoat and yellow trousers. He sounds the cannon at the start of games, to signal home runs by the Revolution and at the end of every home win. It's a tradition from the Revolution's earliest days that elicits cheers from fans without fail.
To fans, Savage is better known as "Powderkeg Pete," the Revolution's official cannoneer. He's second to take the role, having done so three years ago following the retirement of former cannoneer Jason "Cannonball Charlie" Kreiger, after whom the post is named.
"I'm retired and I thought I hang around the house too much, so my wife suggested I come down here and get an usher job," Savage said. "I came down and interviewed and they said, 'Well, we don't need any more ushers, but we need somebody to shoot the cannon.'"
The noise doesn't bother him, though. Savage was an artilleryman in the military during the 1970s, so he's used to the sound of cannon fire.
His uniform is even provided by the team. Savage noted, however, that it didn't offer much protection from the cold wind blowing over the field on Tuesday night. He won't complain though. The job is its own reward.
"I get paid to watch baseball, and I love baseball," Savage said.

In the midst of the pregame ceremonies, between the six Revolution players from last year's squad being presented with trophies for the team's championship run and the game's start, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis appeared for the ceremonial first pitch.
Davis milled about near the Revolution dugout, pausing for photo opportunities with York mayor Sandie Walker and other community leaders. He was also presented with an honorary Revolution jersey bearing his last name and No. 35 − a reference to him being the commonwealth's 35th lieutenant governor.
Before taking the mound and delivering a pitch to Revolution mascot Downtown, Davis addressed the crowd with a brief address.
"On behalf of Governor Shapiro and I, I wanted to say congratulations on back-to-back championship wins," Davis said to the crowd. "Let's go for a threepeat, our commonwealth is rooting for you."
