Diego Simeone expressed confidence in Atlético Madrid's approach ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match against FC Barcelona, downplaying any home advantage. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and belief in the team's strategy.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barcelona, Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone refused to acknowledge any kind of home advantage at the Metropolitano as he previewed the game just like any other.
âThe match, whatever we imagine, is only in our heads for now until the game starts, and obviously, everything weâve said is left behind,â Simeone told reporters on Monday. âBecause if we think weâre going to apply pressure just because weâre playing at home and they play better, it doesnât happen. The other day (Wednesday), in the first 20 minutes, we had good ball movement. They couldnât take the ball away from us, and we spent more time in their half, playing better than anyone imagined at the start of the match.
âSo, we must keep faith, hoping the team can keep responding the way it is, and have confidence in what we want,â he concluded.
âI havenât announced the lineup yet. I usually give it to them at 7 p.m., when weâre at the hotel. I always have time until then to decide who starts.â
âWeâre confident about what we need, and weâre confident about what weâre going to go for. Our goal is to progress, and weâll play the match to make that happen.â
âWe approach them the way weâve been competing against them. We know the opponent weâre facing. Weâre aware of the strong opponent weâll be up against, but weâre also clear on our objective, which is to advance.â
âWith Robin and ClĂ©ment? Did I talk to them or not? No, thereâs no need to talk. I think theyâre very clear on what we need. Robin has been improving game after game, as I mentioned, I think, in the previous press conference. And ClĂ©ment is a very experienced player. He knows his strengths, he knows his weaknesses, and obviously, weâll look to enhance both of them for the good of the team.â
âNo, Iâm thinking about the team, honestly. Iâm not thinking about the referees right now. They have a huge job ahead of them, a very difficult one. Every match, the closer we get to the final, has much greater repercussions. And theyâre already under extreme pressure. Iâm not thinking about that, honestly.â
âTomorrow, Iâm sure something will come to mind as we near the end of the warm-up.â
âNo, itâs just part of football.â
âJust like every other match weâve played at home since Iâve been at the club.â
Diego Simeone highlighted the need for focus and confidence, stating that the match's outcome is determined by their performance rather than the home advantage.
The match is scheduled for April 13, 2026, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
In the first leg, Atlético Madrid had good ball movement and spent more time in Barcelona's half, performing better than expected during the initial 20 minutes.
The quarterfinal represents a crucial opportunity for Atlético Madrid to advance in a prestigious tournament, and Simeone's confidence reflects their determination to succeed.
