BOSTON -- Philadelphia 76ers veteran Kyle Lowry has a wealth of knowledge to pass down to his younger teammates to help them succeed. After 20 years in the league, Lowry has seen it all from highs to lows to every scheme imaginable and every situation one can think of on the basketball court.
Essentially playing an assistant coach role in the 2025-26 season for the Sixers, Lowry is passing down knowledge to star guard Tyrese Maxey. Obviously, Maxey has a high basketball IQ and can handle himself in nearly every situation, but it certainly helps that he has Lowry there to lean on and help him figure things out.
"Kyle has been great," Maxey started. "Like, I have no complaints about Kyle, man. What he's done for this team. He speaks up. He just encourages everybody to go be themselves and be great. For me, he's reading the game from the bench. So, I'm on the court and I'm reading the game, and he can see it maybe a little bit better off the court, because he's in a coaching role, kinda, and he talks to me every timeout."
Lowry is constantly getting up while on the bench and getting into everybody's ear to help them understand what he sees. He is a great player to have on this team as he has the experience of winning a championship while also experiencing lows. That wisdom is so important to pass down to somebody like Maxey. All of it has helped him become a better basketball player in this league.
"It’s never a moment where he’s gonna give me any type of advice—any bad advice," Maxey finished. "So I always listen, and that's the biggest thing. If you have a guy like that, you just gotta listen, man. I played with James (Harden). James was the same way. George Hill. I had George Hill for a little bit, and then Kyle, you know what I'm saying? Those are three guys that I really did appreciate."
Maxey and the Sixers will host the Boston Celtics on Friday in Game 3 of their Round 1 series.
