Liverpool's manager Arne Slot remains optimistic about the team's future despite their 4-0 aggregate defeat to PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals. He highlighted positives from their performance and noted key moments that affected the match, including an injury to Hugo Ekitike and a VAR decision against them.
Slot insists âthe future looks very brightâ for Liverpool despite Champions League elimination
Arne Slot insists the future looks âvery brightâ for his Liverpool team despite their Champions League exit at the hands of PSG.
Liverpool were beaten 4-0 on aggregate in the quarter finals after their 2-0 defeat at Anfield in the second leg but Slot says there were a lot of positives to take from the way his side played.
He also pointed to a serious looking injury to Hugo Ekitike and the referee overturning a penalty for his side after being sent to the monitor by VAR as two examples of where they did not get the luck.
âI think we made a lot of progression compared to last week,â he said.
âI have to give a lot of credit to the players, how hard they worked and a lot of credit to our fans, how they helped us tonight to execute our game plan.
âUnfortunately itâs one of the many examples of this season where we werenât able to score from the many chances we had. Again, we were so far underperforming in terms of our expected goals, and that is just an ongoing thing with us throughout the whole season.

âAdd to that what seems to be another bad injury (for Ekitike), we donât know yet. And add to that another intervention of the VAR which went not in our favour and thatâs also not for the first time this season, then of course we were very disappointed because I think there were parts in the second half where you could just feel that if we score now, this is going to become a special night.
âBut the future looks very bright for this team, for this club, because weâve shown we can compete with the champions of Europe in our stadium. To be the dominant team, not many teams can be dominant against PSG and generate so many chances like we did.
âBut chances is one thing, scoring is the second.â
