FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Former Miami Dolphin Tyreek Hill sat quietly in a Broward courtroom Thursday as lawyers offered conflicting stories to a jury about a playful “football camp” scrimmage at his Southwest Ranches home that sent one social media influencer to the hospital with a fractured leg.
The cause and severity of Sophie Hall’s injury promised to be the focus of the trial before Broward Circuit Judge David Haimes. Hall, 36, who lives on Florida’s Gulf Coast with her two children, is suing Hill for $75,000, claiming his conduct on June 28, 2023, turned retaliatory after she embarrassed him by showing she could push him hard enough to budge him.
Hall’s lawyer, Jonathan Gdansky of the Schlesinger Law Firm, said the football player changed his demeanor and became more aggressive during what was supposed to be a light-hearted scrimmage.
“The plays that were supposed to be educational, the plays that were supposed to be about what her son would experience as a football player, were suddenly something else,” Gdansky said.
In a series of text messages the following week, Hall sent Hill an X-ray documenting the injury. He responded by denying responsibility.
“I think you were too strong pushing against me,” she said.
“Not a chance.” he replied. “I just moved too fast around you.”
Hall has millions of followers on Instagram and Only Fans.
Hill’s lawyer, Robert Horwitz of Simberg, pointed to other facts to establish his contention that Hill did not cause the injury and was not blamed for it until well after the scrimmage. It was Hill, Horwitz said, who carried Hall back from the yard to his house, where Hall stayed for two days afterward. The two were intimate twice during that time.
Horwitz said it was more likely that Hall tripped over Hill’s dog, identified by others at the scrimmage as being in the way at the time.
“She was a football mom for a year before this,” Horwitz said of the plaintiff. “She went to football practices. She knew and assumed the risk.”
Hall took the stand late Thursday to tell the jury her side of the story, including why she waited to seek medical attention.
The trial is scheduled to continue Friday.
