APP
The APP hosted a new competition at this event for the first time, a 24-person invitational one-day event featuring the top players on tour which benefited the Shriners Children’s organization to the tune of nearly $40k in support.
In this event, the top 12 men and women each formed six doubles teams, played a round robin for seeding, then a quick knockout to determine the champions. On the men’s side, Jack Munro and his regular partner Richard Livornese took out Max Manthou & Aidan Schenk in the final, while on the women’s side top pair Sofia Sewing & Megan Fudge topped Jill Braverman & Emelia Schmidt for the win.
Sofia Sewing's Triple Crown win is significant as it marks only the 16th time this achievement has occurred in pickleball tour history.

After a lengthy absence, Ammar Wazir returns to the top of the APP singles scene.
APP
With their entire top 10 present in Sacramento, the Men’s Singles draw promised to be action packed. The draw went mostly to seeds to the semis, where No. 5 Patrick Kawka (fresh off an upset of No. 4 DeHeart in the quarters) took out the top seed Camron to make the final. Meanwhile, No. 2 Ammar Wazir, who missed a big chunk of the end of the 2025 season after ascending to the top spot, took out Beasley and Boyer to get to Sunday’s gold medal match. There, Wazir won two close games 9,7 to claim the gold. It is his first gold since Oct 2025.
Gold: Ammar Wazir. Silver: Patrick Kawka. Bronze: Dustin Boyer.
There were plenty of upsets in the Women’s singles draw. Australian Roos van Reek made statements early with upsets of both Pretorius and Huynh, but fell in the quarters to top seed Sofia Sewing. No. 14 Emilia Schmidt, who won a triple crown at the most recent APP Next event in February, took out No. 3 Oshiro for a career win but subsequently fell in the quarters. Lastly, No. 2 Kat Stewart, who has had a run of dominance over Sewing in singles, was upset in the quarters by another incoming Aussie in Seone Medez, giving the medal round some new blood.
In the end, it was top seed Sewing coming out on top for the gold, but just by the skin of her teeth with a 12-10 third game win over Mendez.
Gold: Sofia Sewing. Silver: Seone Mendez. Bronze: Domenika Turkovic.

Sofia Sewing’s is looking to take over with her new mixed partner Casey Diamond: the pair cruised through the draw as the top seed and took gold without dropping a set. They topped long-time Mixed No. 1 Megan Fudge, who looks to have split up with Munro after a long run last year and played this event with Livornese. Meanwhile, Jack Munro paired with the precocious Emilia Schmidt here, but were upset early by Richmond-based David Bieger paired with APP Next graduate Riley Bohnert. Interestingly, the two ex-PPA pros Glozman and Duong paired together but were ousted in the quarters by No. 2 Oshiro & Blanco.
Gold: Sewing & Diamond. Silver: Fudge & Livornese. Bronze: Maddox & Manthou.

Jack Munro is picking up right where he left off for most of 2025, with new partner Richard Livornese Jr as the top seed. They cruised through the draw and topped surprise finalists No. 7 Robert Slutsky & Zack Taylor, who were also finalists in Mesa last November and who are pushing their way up the ranks.
In other notable player news, PPA expat Quang Duong teamed with Jaylen Broderick, but were upset in the round of 16 relatively easily by No. 3 Wazir & Tomassi.
Gold: Munro & Livornese. Silver: Slutsky & Taylor. Bronze: Manthou & Yu.
Sofia Sewing teamed with Megan Fudge as the top seed and took the title, but it was no easy pathway for the two top-ranked players on tour. After a couple of early round blow-outs, the pair were extended in the semis by No. 5 Oshiro & Stewart before winning11-7 in the third, then in the final were similarly taxed by the new-look team of Vivian Glozman & Roos van Reek. Glozman & van Reek topped the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 7 seeds on their way to the title, and this was the Aussie’s first APP pro medal.
With this win, Sewing wrapped up a rare feat on the APP: a Triple Crown. This is just the 15th domestic triple in the history of the APP, and the first since Will Howells pulled off the feat in Fort Lauderdale last April. Sewing also did a triple in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year on the APP’s International circuit.
Gold: Sewing & Fudge. Silver: Glozman & van Reek. Bronze: Oshiro & Stewart.
There was no 65+ division in Sacramento, so the 60+ division included both the regular 60+ pros as well as the 65+ regulars.
