A finalist of the Champions League for the second consecutive year, Paris Saint-Germain is impressive. The work done by Luis Enrique is recognized worldwide. But for his part, the Le Havre player Sofiane Boufal has already seen the Parisians play such attractive soccer before.
Long criticized and even mocked under the Qatari era, PSG is no longer a laughingstock. For almost a year, the capital club has never been so praised. Compliments come from all over the world as the Parisians impress with their results and the content of their matches. Luis Enrique has put in place a perfectly oiled collective that takes precedence over individuals.
But to say that the Parisian team plays the most beautiful soccer in its history, Boufal would not go that far. The attacking midfielder, who notably played for Angers and Lille, remembers PSG as just as attractive under Laurent Blanc at the helm (2013-2016).
"I had the chance to play against Laurent Blanc's PSG back then. And for me, it is comparable to Luis Enrique's," the Le Havre player compared in an interview with Foot Mercato. "The current PSG just has more success in the Champions League. But Laurent Blanc's was incredible."
"I remember a match back then where we lost 4-0 after 20 minutes," he recalled. "There were stars like Zlatan or Cavani. But it was a great team with Verratti, Motta, or Matuidi. Everyone knew what they had to do. In fact, star or not, it's especially about how you adapt to the collective. The current PSG has cracks, but they put themselves at the service of the collective." A flattering comparison for the Cevenol coach, who was fired after a Champions League quarterfinal failure against .
Sofiane Boufal believes that while PSG under Luis Enrique is impressive, the team's attractive soccer was just as notable during Laurent Blanc's tenure.
Under Luis Enrique, Paris Saint-Germain has reached the Champions League final for the second consecutive year and has received widespread acclaim for their performances.
During the Qatari era, PSG was often criticized and mocked for their performances, but they have since transformed into a highly praised team under Luis Enrique.
