NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Eloisa Maes pitched a five-inning no-hitter and her Melissa teammates backed her with four home runs in a 12-0 victory over Midlothian in a one-game playoff to decide the Class 5A Division I Region II semifinal winner Thursday night at Birdville High’s Hawk Field.
Maes, a junior orally committed to Arizona, improved her record to 28-2, but often her work in the circle is overshadowed by Melissa’s bats.
“And that’s OK,’’ said Maes. “It’s cool to see the homers. I know the batters have my back and the fielders do, too.’’
Only two Midlothian batters reached base, a walk in the first to Madison Howard and New Mexico signee Aubrey Robledo on an infield throwing error in the third. The 10-run mercy rule ended the game after five innings.
“My job is to spin the ball and miss the barrel of the bat,’’ said Maes, who struck out four. “Strikeouts are not important to me. I’d rather get an out on one pitch.’’
Melissa (31-2), a state champion the last two years and ranked No. 4 nationally by MaxPreps, has now successfully navigated through 16 consecutive playoff rounds in the last three seasons. It marks the fifth consecutive season for Melissa to reach the fourth playoff round.

Midlothian (24-12-2) made it to the third round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season, with elimination coming in each case at the hands of Melissa.
Williams and Bradley remained tied for the Melissa home run lead with 20 and both drove in three runs. Seven of Melissa’s nine hits went for extra bases. Catcher Hutton Adrian, an Arkansas pledge, had an RBI triple. Ana Gonzales and Williams delivered two-run doubles.
