Bruno Fina, the son of Buffalo Bills legend John Fina, participated at the team's rookie minicamp this week after being signed as an undrafted free agent.
Much like his father John, who played 11 seasons (10 with the Bills) after being a first-round pick in 1992, Bruno comes to Bills camp as an offensive lineman hoping to make a good first impression.
Fina started his career at UCLA before transferring to Duke for his final two seasons. He played almost exclusively at left tackle in college, but the Bills will likely see what he can do on the interior of the line as well.
Fina thinks he can help out wherever is needed by Joe Brady and the offensive coaching staff, telling reporters on the first day of camp, "I'm here to be a versatility guy... I'm here to plug holes and be a Swiss Army Knife."
For Fina, it just so happens that the place where his father was an integral part of the team for a decade is also a place which has some openings for depth spots on the offensive line.
"I chose coming to Buffalo because it was just the best place for me in terms of the depth chart and the possible playing time," Fina said. "It was like... this is almost too weird... the best place for me is the place where my dad was... it was just kind of a random coincidence."
Fina has had an easier adjustment to rookie camp than most, having friends and family nearby in Western New York.
"The best part I think is that my dad had so many close friends here and my family, like my grandfather, before he moved to Tuscon he was from Rochester... so I got friends, I got family, people I can go have a home-cooked meal with and it just feels like family away from family," Fina said.
When asked what the advice was that he received from his dad before camp, he said, "Do the little things right... go make that team."
Fina is just one of 58 participants at rookie minicamp, including 10 draft picks and 12 UDFAs.
