The 6-foot-9, 215-pounder is the youngest son of former Iowa basketball head coach Fran McCaffery.
Jack McCaffery saw his freshman season end prematurely after a wisdom teeth infection led to emergency dental surgery and a subsequent weight loss of 15 pounds. McCaffery totaled 25 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals in nine games played for the Bulldogs last season.
While Jack McCaffery has no direct connection to Iowa outside of his family ties, his transfer portal signing with Richmond is still a bit ironic, given that the Spiders knocked out the Fran McCaffery-coached Hawkeyes squad in the Round of 64 during the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
That 2022 Hawkeyes squad featured both Patrick and Connor McCaffery and entered the tournament as a No. 5 seed following a Big Ten Tournament championship.
Jack McCaffery was ranked as the top player in Iowa, as the No. 28 power forward and as the 144th-player nationally in the 2025 class per 247Sports. The recruiting service ranked McCaffery as a four-star signee to Butler in the 2025 cycle.
