The Boston Red Sox picked up a huge 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in a game that was backed by home runs and a stellar outing from Sonny Gray.
Boston dropped the first game of the series and the Red Sox turned to Gray to get the team back on track. The veteran right-hander was dominant as he went six innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out six.
Following the win, Gray sent a clear message to the Red Sox, as despite the slow start, he remains confident in the clubhouse and the group.
āI 100 percent believe in all of the guys in that locker room, and we just need to win as many games as we can and keep pushing forward,ā Gray said postgame on Wednesday. āBecause I do think one of those runs, one of those streaks is coming for us.
āTonight was awesome. Great defense, a couple big homers, but we are a good offensive team, and weāre a good team. And I truly believe that. So our time is coming.ā
With the 3-1 win over the Phillies, Boston improved to 18-24 on the season. Gray, meanwhile, improved to 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA in seven starts this season as the right-hander has been a bright spot for Boston.
