Sophie Cunningham, Indiana Fever guard, cleared the air regarding her year-long contract deal via social media this week. The Indiana Fever player clarified that it wasn’t about finances; she wanted a multi-year contract because she planned to relocate her pet donkey and dog to Indianapolis.

“I’m gonna shut this down right now. I’m not mad about the money,” Cunningham wrote on X. “I just wanted more years because I love it here. I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That’s it. That’s the truth. I think we have something very special here in Indiana!!”

The one-year contract was in response to speculation that Cunningham might leave the Indiana Fever due to dissatisfaction with the contract talks about her 2026 re-signing, likely fueled by some of her comments and videos found online suggesting this.
