Spain manager comments on Real Madrid captain’s World Cup chances – ‘Very important figure’
Dani Carvajal’s difficult season at Real Madrid could yet have consequences beyond club football, with questions now beginning to emerge over his chances of making Spain’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The experienced right-back has endured a frustrating campaign marked by injuries, inconsistent form and growing uncertainty surrounding his role inside the club setup.
Just when he appeared to be working toward full rhythm again, another setback arrived after he was diagnosed with a fracture in the fifth toe of his right foot.
The injury is expected to sideline him for around two weeks, significantly limiting the number of matches he can play before the season ends.
As things stand, there is a strong possibility that Carvajal may only return in time for Madrid’s final league fixture against Athletic Club and that timing is far from ideal.
For a player fighting to prove both fitness and consistency ahead of the World Cup, missing decisive matches at the end of the campaign could become a serious obstacle.
Carvajal knows that finishing the season strongly would have been the perfect opportunity to strengthen his case for Spain selection.
Despite losing his place to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis de la Fuente made it clear that the still values Carvajal enormously.

Speaking about the defender’s situation, the Spain coach highlighted not only the player’s experience but also his leadership within the national team dressing room.
“Dani Carvajal going to the World Cup? He is a very important figure in our locker room, a captain in capital letters,” said the national team manager, according to AS.
De la Fuente also revealed that he had recently spoken directly with the Real Madrid defender and remains optimistic regarding his recovery process, even if the player still needs time to regain his best physical level.
“We love him and we will be looking forward to his recovery. I talked to him yesterday and I know what’s going on.
“His injury is nothing serious, but he needs time to reach the level he has.”
The manager then admitted that the final stretch of the season could still become decisive when the time comes to make a final decision regarding the World Cup squad.
“We’ll see if in these remaining games he has the opportunity and has the performance,” he concluded.
