Even though Kylian Mbappe was not part of the squad for Real Madrid during Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona, the French superstar still managed to become one of the biggest talking points of the evening.
While Real Madrid were struggling at Spotify Camp Nou and Barcelona were moving closer to sealing the La Liga title with a 2-0 lead, Mbappe posted a message on social media in support of his teammates.
The forward shared a picture of the match being shown on television alongside the short caption: “Hala Madrid”.
The message quickly attracted strong reactions online, particularly from frustrated Real Madrid supporters already upset with the team’s performance and the loss of the league title.
Among those who publicly criticised Mbappe’s actions was well-known journalist Tomas Roncero, who appeared far from impressed by the timing of the social media post.
“Kylian is having a laugh at all of us,” he wrote on his official X account.
According to reports from Spain, Mbappe pulled out just minutes before the end of Saturday’s final training session after suffering an injury that has since fuelled growing speculation around the club.
As a result, he avoided travelling to Barcelona for one of the most difficult nights of the season for Real Madrid, with their biggest rivals celebrating another La Liga title in front of their own supporters.
While his teammates witnessed Barcelona’s celebrations at Camp Nou, Mbappe watched from afar.
The journalist felt that Mbappe's post was inappropriate given Real Madrid's poor performance in the El Clasico.
Mbappe shared a picture of the match on television with the caption 'Hala Madrid' to support his teammates.
