Speculation is increasing about Joey Bosa potentially joining the San Francisco 49ers. The move could reunite him with his brother, Nick Bosa, and strengthen the team's edge rusher position.
Speculation Grows for Joey Bosa to Niners
The San Francisco 49ers have room for improvement at edge rusher. They may find it in a popular name.
San Francisco edge rusher Nick Bosa's brother, Joey, is generating buzz as a potential option for the team at edge. The older Bosa starred for the Buffalo Bills last season.
The feasibility of the move would probably not be for lack of interest. Presumably the former Ohio State Buckeyes edge would love to team up with his brother in San Francisco. Add in the positive impact it would have for Bosa's family and it seems like a great move all around for Bosa and company
ESPN NFL insider Nick Wagoner discussed the possibility of the move. Here's what Wagoner had to say about the potential game changing addition.
"In each of the past two years, veteran defensive end Joey Bosa has lingered on the free agent market as fans have clamored for Joey and Nick Bosa to join forces on the 49ers.
At the league meetings in March, Lynch said it would 'make Mama Bosa happy' if San Francisco signed Joey but noted that he didn't know if the Niners can afford him.
Since then, San Francisco has signed offensive tackle Trent Williams to a deal that reduced his 2026 salary cap number, restructured defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa's contract to create more cap space and will gain more when it eventually moves on from Aiyuk.
On paper, there's enough money and cap space to add Joey, but the 49ers prefer to roll over significant cap space each year. They also have a glut of options at edge rusher, though only Nick comes with a résumé anything like Joey's. Other options include , , third-round pick Romello Height, and intriguing undrafted rookie Mikail Kamara."
The speculation suggests a strong possibility, especially given the family's interest in reuniting.
Joey Bosa had a standout season with the Buffalo Bills, contributing significantly to their defense.
His addition would likely enhance the 49ers' edge rusher capabilities and create a dynamic brotherly duo on the field.

Needless to say, Joey Bosa would likely be the catalyst that the 49ers need to push for contention. In fact, given that they are arguably an elite edge rusher away from becoming a top team in the NFC. The addition could vault San Francisco to the top of NFL power rankings despite Seattle's dominant season in 2025.
Say what you will about the 49ers drafting habits, some of which are not conducive to building the best possible team. Albeit San Francisco has not shied away from spending through trades and free agency. The Niners will hope to find their difference maker over the next few weeks.
