Tuesday's performance was a microcosm of the Red Sox's offensive woes this season. They chased too many pitches outside the strike zone, didn't make hard contact, hit the ball into the ground and fell short with runners in scoring position.
It's been a tough year at the plate for Boston, which ranks 24th in runs, 28th in OPS and tied for last in home runs, which explains the team's 9-14 record.
Unfortunately for the Red Sox, they have two more tough matchups in this series against Max Fried and Cam Schlittler, so getting back on track against the Yankees won't be easy.
