He was originally committed to prestigious North Dakota where he grew up, but has since flipped to the Tommies.

Prior to his time in the WHL, O’Neill was a depth piece to the very talented NTDP squadron in the USHL.
The Elite Prospects 2026 draft guide states, “A hard-working centre, O’Neill’s defensive impact comes through his mentality.” A textbook gritty mentality described; it was also mentioned, “Even if he can’t get a clean stop, he wins possession on the second or third try.”
St. Thomas is coming off a 21-12-5 record, ending up just a game shy of an NCAA tournament appearance, losing to the Mason Cup dominant Minnesota State Mavericks up in Mankato.
The Tommies made the jump from division three to division one in 2021, now making the jump from the CCHA to the NCHC, arguably the NCAA’s strongest conference, as they have produced yet another National Championship from the conference with Denver’s recent victory.
A campus and developed arena are definitely more attractive to recruits, and the evidence shows in this huge addition for the Tommies.
