The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles suffered a 7-4 walk-off loss to Stanford, completing a three-game series sweep. This marks FSU's first series sweep loss of the season, dropping their record to 29-14 overall.
The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles wrapped up the final game of their three-game series with the Stanford Cardinal with a heartbreaking 7-4 walk-off loss on Sunday in Palo Alto, getting swept in a three-game series for the first time this season. They have fallen to 29-14 overall and 12-9 in ACC play.
In the first inning, Florida State's Hunter Carns singled to center field, which allowed Chase Williams to score. FSU added on another run in the first, when Carns came home on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the second, Stanford's Jimmy Nati singled, that let Brady Reynolds to score from second. Nati would also score a double in the bottom of the fourth, which allowed Charlie Bates to score.
The Seminoles scored a run in the sixth inning on an infield single from Cal Fisher, driving in Gabe Fraser. Then, Rashad Hayes of Stanford scored in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a wild pitch to make it a 3-3 tie.
In the top of the ninth, FSU would score its final run thanks to an Eli Putnam homer, his eighth of the season.
Stanford was not to be denied, though, as Rintaro Sasaki homered to deep left field, which allowed three runs from Brady Reynolds, Brock Sell, and Nolan Stoll, all scored to complete the walkoff loss.
The Seminoles will look to get back on track when they welcome the South Florida Bulls to Tallahassee for a game on Wednesday, April 29. Fans can catch that game on the ACC Network Extra at 4 p.m. ET.
