The LSU Tigers have secured their second commitment out of the transfer portal, adding star Iowa State Cyclones point guard Jada Williams, the player announced on Sunday.
Williams is as good a transfer as the Tigers could have hoped for, given the surprise exodus of young guards. Point guard was not going to be a priority in the portal for them, but it was forced upon them. Kim Mulkey responded with an elite ball-handler to help run next year's offense.
The Cyclones guard averaged 15.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and a Big-12-best 7.7 assists per game. The huge assist numbers are partially due to having the benefit of Audi Crooks as her center, but Williams showcased improved playmaking outside of just setting Crooks up as well.
The 5-foot-6 guard had 41.7/30.3/80.5 shooting splits last season. That 30.3% from three was a career-high on 4.8 attempts per night. LSU doesn't have as much emphasis on the three-ball as some teams do, but they will likely ask her to bump up that volume, as they lost a lot of their shooting with Jada Richard and Bella Hines both losing.
Williams had originally committed to the Arizona Wildcats and spent her first two years there. She was a McDonald's All-American and a Top-25 recruit coming out of high school. In college, she has been a Pac-12 All-freshman and was on the Big-12 First team this past season.
She has been a star since high school, becoming the first high school female athlete to sign an NIL deal.
Jada Williams averaged 15.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game, leading the Big 12 in assists.
Jada Williams transferred to LSU to fill the void left by the unexpected departure of young guards, providing the team with an elite ball-handler for next season.
Her addition strengthens LSU's offense and addresses the need for a point guard, enhancing their overall playmaking capabilities for the upcoming season.
