First Baptist senior Caleb Paul went out on top, winning the Class 1A triple jump title with a massive PR of 14.37 meters. His leap was the top local result in the first day of the state track and field championships at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
Canterbury senior Joslyne De La Nuez was a double medalist, finishing second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 200 meters.
Community School junior Aniston Newman also medaled in two events, coming in fourth in both the 100 hurdles and the long jump.
St. John Neumann senior Logan Bartelt finished as state runner up in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line after 1:55.15.
Community School senior Jace Jackson earned a pair of medals in the field events, coming in third in shot put and sixth in discus.
The Community School boys came in 12th place, and the Canterbury girls finished 11th for the top results among Southwest Florida teams.
