Steelers bring in Penn State QB Drew Allar for pre-draft visit

The Pittsburgh Steelers are wrapping up their Top 30 pre-draft visits this week, and on Wednesday are having a visit from former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. Allar is coming back from a broken ankle he suffered in October of 2025. Allar noted after the injury that it was a clean break and he appears to have made a full recovery ahead of the 2026 NFL draft.

Allar is a quarterback who fits the mold of what new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy wants from his signal caller. Allar is a big, strong-armed thrower who operates well in a pro-style offense and is accustomed to playing in very physical conference and often in bad weather.

In terms of his scouting report, Allar is something of a throwback quarterback. Not a runner by any means, he can move and throw off platform and he has the arm strength to make all the throws when the situation is calm or when he's under duress.

However, Allar's college career has been marked with inconsistent decision-making stemming from mechanics and footwork issues. When Allar is on, he is a big-play specialist but when he struggles, it is obvious.

We have a third-round grade on Allar at this point in a big cluster or quarterbacks like Carson Beck, Garrett Nussmeier, Cole Payton and Taylen Green. Who is picked where will depend greatly on what you want from a quarterback and what shortcomings you are willing to deal with.
