The Pittsburgh Steelers broadcast team conducted a three-round mock draft, trading up to select guard Vega Ioane at No. 11. They also picked wide receiver Ted Hurst in the second round and defensive lineman Chris McClellan in the third round.
On Friday the Pittsburgh Steelers broadcast team of Mike Prisuta, Matt Williamson, and Max Starks got together and did their second three-round Steelers mock draft. To say the outcome was interesting would be an understatement. Here's how things went down.
The trio decided the best way to start out this mock draft was to trade up with a target of former Penn State guard Vega Ioane. To make it happen, they sent the No. 21 overall pick along with the No. 76 and No. 85 picks to move up to pick No. 11 where they selected Ioane. The former Penn State guard is an elite prospect, no doubt but we don't like the idea of giving up two of three third-round picks to go up and get him in this draft.
Moving to the second round, the guys debated multiple positions, including cornerback, safety, and wide receiver. Ultimately they settled on Georgia State star wide receiver Ted Hurst. This was with Alabama's Germie Bernard and Louisville's Chris Bell available. We have no issue with Hurst as a prospect other than the fact he projects as a pure "Z" receiver in the NFL and has very little experience kicking inside. But to go before Bernard or Bell came as a shock.
Finally, the guys made their single third-round pick at pick No. 99. The guys realized quickly the cupboards were bare at cornerback and safety, so they pivoted to the defensive line. We love Missouri's Chris McClellan and think he's a solid pick here. Nevertheless, overall, this draft feels like the Steelers gave up an awful lot for this haul.

The selection of Ted Hurst was surprising because he was chosen over other available prospects like Germie Bernard and Chris Bell, and he is projected as a pure 'Z' receiver with limited inside experience.
