The Pittsburgh Steelers are considering local quarterback Drew Allar as a potential draft pick, especially if Aaron Rodgers does not return next season. Allar, who played for Penn State, is projected as a Day 3 pick after an injury-plagued senior season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers still don't have a definitive answer on whether Aaron Rodgers will return next season. With the 2026 NFL Draft approaching, it could be a prime opportunity to add some depth to the quarterback room and compete with Will Howard if Rodgers doesn't return.
The franchise seems aware of this and has welcomed several quarterback draft prospects for pre-Draft visits. And on Wednesday, they brought in a potential target who boasts a local connection to the franchise and its fans on the final day to host such visits, as it has been reported that Drew Allar met with the Steelers.
Allar is originally from Ohio, and the closest NFL franchise to where he grew up in actually the Cleveland Browns. But he forged his name and his draft stock at the collegiate level playing for the Penn State Nittany Lions, located just a couple of hours east of the Steel City in State College. And with the Draft set in Pittsburgh this year, it would be a cool moment to see Allar hear his name called to join one of Pennsylvania's two franchises.
Allar is currently projected as a Day 3 pick, falling from a potential first-rounder earlier in his college career after a lackluster start to his senior season was followed by a season-ending ankle injury just six games into the year. He finished his collegiate career with 7,402 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
