Stefon Diggs is being considered as the best free agent fit for the Atlanta Falcons as they head into the 2026 NFL draft. The Falcons are looking to enhance their wide receiver corps to support Drake London and address other roster needs.
Heading into the 2026 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons have several clear and present roster needs that need to be addressed. Defensively, they need a new nose tackle, another inside linebacker and cornerback depth.
On offense, the needs boil down to desperately needing more firepower at wide receiver to complement Drake London - and Jahan Datson likely ain't it. They'll also need a new tight end if they manage to find a trade partner for Kyle Pitts.
However, the draft board may not be amenable to their plans. Sometimes teams are forced to reach to meet their immediate needs, and that tends not to work out well. There might be another solution already on the market, though - at least when it comes to filling out Atlanta's wide receiver corps.
According to Gilberto Manzano at Sports Illustrated, the ideal landing spot for four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs is the Falcons.
"Even if he resolves his legal matters, it’s going to be difficult for Diggs to find a team to bet on him as he enters his age-33 season. But the tape doesn’t lie, and Diggs was extremely productive last year with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns..."
Diggs is a big name and still has plenty of talent based on what he produced in New England last season. Then again, Diggs is now 33 years old and he's been a locker room problem with every single team he's suited up for.
The Falcons would be foolish not to consider signing him, though. Diggs would be the best wide receiver to come along since Julio Jones and add an element that's been missing from Atlanta's passing attack for a long time.
The trick will be not to overpay for Diggs' services, the way the Patriots did last season - signing him to a three-year, $63 million deal that only lasted one.
If the Falcons are going to target Diggs, they need to set a hard ceiling at around half of what he was earning last season. If he balks at that, it's no great loss. If they can actually get Diggs in the $10-15 million range then he could turn out to be a very high-value signing.
