The New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs this offseason to create some cap space and attempted to replace him by signing Romeo Doubs.
Diggs remains unsigned, and he could be a great addition to plenty of contenders. He was the Patriots' leading receiver last season, posting over 1,000 yards. Coming off a torn ACL, he proved he is capable of still being a No. 1 receiver. However, he may have to settle for less money at this stage in his career.
The NFL Draft is coming up, and after that, teams could look at their wide receiver situation and make a move for Diggs, but which teams make the most sense? Well, the Buffalo Bills actually make a ton of sense for Diggs. Things between the Bills and Diggs did not end in the best way, but before last season's Super Bowl, he spoke highly of the organization, fans and Josh Allen.
“I love you guys. I know I’m far gone, but I do miss you all. I built a great relationship with you all," Diggs said to reporters of Buffalo. “Keep hanging your head on that quarterback. That quarterback is a Hall of Famer. Parts of me do wish things were different because I do have a lot of love and respect for that team.”
Well, the Bills desperately need help at receiver, and even if they draft one early, Diggs could be a great asset. The Bills added DJ Moore this offseason, but have not made any other big moves to help Allen in the passing game.
Diggs and Allen put up monster numbers together. All four of Diggs' Pro Bowl nods have come with Allen as his trigger man. Diggs was also a First-Team All-Pro with Allen, leading the league in receptions and receiving yards in 2020. Diggs may not be that player anymore, but on a cheaper deal, he could be an elite player to pair with Moore. Those two leading the receiving corps would be a massive upgrade from last season.
Things between Allen and Diggs were reportedly shaky toward the end of his time with the Bills, but Diggs seems to have great admiration for Allen. He even cleared the air on a viral picture of him side-eyeing Allen.
“They had that picture, right? Of me side-eyeing him,” Diggs said of Allen last season. “They just caught it at the wrong time and I’ve always wanted to speak on that photo because I was staring at him in the moment because it was like, ‘Damn, that was my brother.’ We won in Houston, but that’s my brother.”
Right now, Diggs needs a team, and Allen needs a No. 1 receiver. Diggs returning to Buffalo could be a great move for both sides.
