The Golden State Warriors officially secured the long-term future of head coach Steve Kerr this week after reports surfaced Saturday that the two sides agreed to a two-year, $35 million contract extension.
The deal reportedly makes Kerr the highest-paid coach in the NBA and ensures the four-time championship coach will remain with the organization as it looks ahead to the next phase of its core built around Stephen Curry.
On Tuesday, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel shared Kerrâs first public comments regarding the agreement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
âI am grateful for the opportunity to continue coaching this team. This organization has meant so much to me for the last 12 years â from ownership to our players, our staff, and our fans â and itâs an incredible privilege to be a part of something so special. Iâm excited to keep competing with this group.â

The veteran coach has compiled a 604-353 regular-season record and a 104-48 playoff record across 12 seasons with the franchise. His system, centered on pace, spacing and ball movement, helped reshape offensive philosophies throughout the league.
The extension arrives following a difficult 2025-26 season for Golden State. The Warriors finished 37-45 and were eliminated in the Play-In Tournament, though the organization remained publicly supportive of Kerr amid injuries and roster instability throughout the year.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. also praised Kerr after news of the extension became public.
âWeâre thrilled that Steveâs tenure with the Warriors will continue. His impact on our franchise has been enormous, well beyond the championships and incredible on-court success. The character and leadership that he exudes each day helps set the tone for what we hope our franchise represents both now and in the future.â
The agreement provides stability for a franchise entering an important stretch as Curry approaches the later stages of his career. Questions had surfaced about Kerrâs long-term future following the Warriorsâ early postseason exit, particularly after reports suggested he could consider stepping away after more than a decade with the organization.
Instead, Golden State has reaffirmed its commitment to continuity, keeping one of the leagueâs most accomplished coaches in place for at least two more seasons.
