Dominique Malonga's time is now.
That would've been true this season regardless of circumstance for the Seattle Storm, but with Ezi Magbegor out to open the campaign due to injury, there's no waiting around.
From the Storm's opening tip of the season on Friday night, Malonga will be expected to hold down a starring role.
That's been Seattle's hope since she was drafted No. 2 overall in 2025 out of France.
And the athletic, dunking, 6-foot-6 Malonga is ready.
"No pressure, but the Storm need Malonga to mature into a superstar," the Seattle Times wrote in its season preview of the Storm. "It doesn’t have to happen this year, but the sooner the better. At the very least, the front office and new coaching staff are hoping she improves upon a promising rookie year that included back-to-back performances of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. Malonga acquitted herself well in two of three playoff games while notching a pair of double-doubles."

Malonga, for her part, isn't buying into the high pressure on her this season.
"There is nothing crazy that is expected from me," Malonga said, via the Seattle Times. "They just expect me to be me. To bring what I know. To bring energy. To run the floor. To be versatile and play defense, basically just the basic thing. They don’t ask me to be out of character. I know that the playing style that we have today, it’s fast paced. It’s positionless so I’ll have the opportunity to be on different position on the floor and just be efficient in any position that I will be in. The word for this season is efficiency. That’s what I want to be."
The reality is that from the moment Malonga was drafted, she was the type of player you can dream on. Her traits are unmatched by almost anyone else in the league.
The beginning of the 2026 campaign is when those dreams can start to shift closer into reality. If Malonga reaches her level of hype, the Storm will be one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the league.
