Rematch?
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka came up short once again to reclaim his belt, suffering a first-round knockout loss to Carlos Ulberg in the main event of UFC 327 last night (Sat., April 11, 2026) inside Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida (watch highlights).
It marked Prochazka’s third failed bid at Light Heavyweight gold — and this one may sting the most.
Immediately after the fight, Prochazka spoke with Joe Rogan and admitted he made a critical mistake by showing “mercy” instead of pressing the finish when he realized Ulberg was severely compromised.
Hours later, the former champion doubled down on that sentiment in a candid social media post.
“Big apologies for my performance tonight,” Prochazka said on his Instagram story. “I still can’t understand my stupid mercy in the fight, and that cost me the fight. So, I would like to fight a rematch because, man, that was my fight. That was my fight, and I just gave him this opportunity to catch me. Big apologies to everyone who supports me.”
It’s a brutally honest assessment, but an immediate rematch is a tough sell.
Despite being one of the division’s most exciting and fan-friendly fighters — and someone the promotion clearly values, granting him four title fights in four years — Prochazka has now fallen short in three of those opportunities, all by knockout.
Still, the thin Light Heavyweight division isn’t exactly overflowing with star power, and Prochazka remains one of its biggest names. Another highlight-reel win in his next outing could possibly put him back in the mix.
At the same time, there’s no one Prochazka can blame but himself.
He was clearly playing with a compromised opponent — one who looked less than two minutes away from potentially not making it out for round two, or a couple of leg kicks away from folding completely — and instead of closing the show, he gave Ulberg a window.
And he paid dearly for it.
