It was a very quiet weekend for Syracuse basketball and the transfer portal. While Orange fans are getting impatient that there were no new additions to the roster, we did get some information on three players the staff has been connected to and in light of the news that Owen Freeman has chosen Auburn, they show a focus on adding another big.
Evan Chatman is a 6’8” forward who played last season at UAB. He started 29 games for UAB averaging 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, which was good for 3rd in the American Conference last season. Chatman’s ability to get to the glass would help Syracuse’s frontcourt. He started his college career at a JUCO and would have anywhere from 1-3 years of eligibility.

Luke Wilson is a 6’9”center from Appalachin State who averaged 10.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game last year. He was the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and he’d have two years of eligibility.
Appalachian State transfer Luke Wilson tells me that he’s receiving interest from the following programs:
Georgia
Mississippi State
Syracuse
Saint Louis

The last player was Devin Williams, a 6’10” forward from FAU. Williams was a top 100 recruit out of high school who started his career at UCLA. Last season he led the American in blocks and shot 57.7% on two-point attempts.
The article mentions Evan Chatman as one of the players connected to Syracuse basketball, but does not specify the names of the other two players.
Evan Chatman averaged 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while starting 29 games for UAB last season.
Syracuse is looking to add another big player following Owen Freeman's decision to transfer to Auburn, indicating a need to strengthen their frontcourt.

None of these players will move the needle for fans, but all would add defense and rebounding to the Syracuse frontcourt, an area of need for sure. There are four roster spots open and the Orange need more bigs who can rebound and defend.
There are rumors circulating that someone will enter the portal and become the top target, which could set off more dominoes before tomorrow’s deadline to enter the portal.
Are you losing patience with McNamara and staff, or are you still trusting the process?
