By the end of the day Saturday in Owasso, Claremore had rewritten school records and overwhelmed the rest of the field.
Powered by dominant sprint relays, standout individual performances and depth across nearly every event, Claremore’s boys captured the Class 5A East Regional championship by 28 points at Owasso High School, while the Lady Zebras added a third-place team finish and a long list of state qualifiers of their own.
The Zebra boys scored 135 points to easily outdistance the field, while the girls finished with 94 points behind only champion Tahlequah [128] and runner-up Bishop Kelley.
Regional champions, runners-up and third-place finishers automatically qualified for the state meet, while select fourth- through seventh-place finishers advanced based on statewide qualifying marks.
