In the world of rodeo, injuries are just inevitable, not just to the cowboys but also the stock. This week, there was an injury to a talented bucking bull by the name of Hot Sauce owned by Nothin' But Try Ranch.
Hot Sauce was bucking in Sioux Falls at a PBR event. He was set to match with Dener Barbosa and Sage Kimzey. Hot Sauce unfortunately left the arena with a severe injury to his leg. He was immediately taken to the vet for evaluation where they found a tibial fracture near the stifle according to Nothin' But Try Ranch's social media updates.
"Surgery is not a viable option, so we are taking him to a vet that has extensive experience with splints, We have so many vets working on this to get him the bets care and outcome possible," read the update.
Mid-Texas Veterinary Associates got the shout out for taking on the challenge, and working hard to save the life of this incredible athlete.
The latest update on Hot Sauce read, "He got his brace on and was able to get up on his very first try. We were all completely surprised. They typically fight the brace, fall and can do more dmdange. he can lay down and get up without any trouble. He has a very long road ahead and we are cautiously optimistic."
Without a doubt, these bucking bulls are more than just animals. Bulls like Hot Sauce are incredible athletes and part of the family. He is a strong one, and is trying hard to make a full recovery.
They shared, "Hot Sauce is a fighter and deserves a chance. We will spare no expense to save him."
Hot Sauce is one of many impressive bulls out of the Nothin' But Try Ranch program. They have raised and trained many of the greatest PBR bulls going down the road right now. Their care for the animals is unmatched, and they are doing everything possible to help their very own, Hot Sauce, recover.
Mid-Texas Veterinary also shared their own update.
"Some fractures in cattle are not able to have surgery due to the extent of the damage, the weight of the animals and the temperament. Cattle can heal really well with lower limb fractures that maintain good blood supply. Hot Sauce has a severe fracture involving all the soft tissue of the stifle and multiple pieces (“compound fracture”) of the tibia (upper limb fracture). The veterinarians and surgeons at Kansas State went above and beyond to see if there was any possible way to repair this surgically but there was a very poor chance he would recover. The owners are willing to try everything possible so we placed a large splint with hopes it can stabilize the fracture enough it can heal. He will not be able to use his stifle joint but if he can survive this splint, then bucking bulls have a great chance of being able to be used for breeding due to their athleticism and heart. We all take an oath to first “do no harm” so we do not take these splints lightly as some animals can lose a lot of condition and rehabilitation is necessary once healed. The vast majority of animals do not stand this well the first time with a splint and some take a few days to learn how to use it. Please say your prayers for this fella! He has the biggest heart!"
Although we hate to see injuries like this happen, we understand that these unfortunate events are inevitable, even to the best of the best. Things happen, and luckily Hot Sauce has the best care team surrounding him. We are sending our prayers to Hot Sauce, his family, and the vets that are helping him.
