Talented shooting guard transfer commits to LSU basketball

Will Wade and the LSU Tigers have landed another key piece of their 2026-27 roster, landing a commitment from Kansas State transfer guard Abdi Bashir Jr., according to Jonathan Givony of Draft Express.

He is the third player that they have landed in the past two days, after international big man Marcio Santos and Michigan State point guard Divine Ugochukwu committed on Thursday. They now have four players on their roster for next season, with Kentucky transfer Mouhamed Dioubate rounding out the group.

Bashir started 18 games in his only year with Kansas State. He averaged 13.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. An elite shooter, he made 44.4% if his 3-pointers on 8.4 attempts per game. He also shot 42.1% from the field and 68.8% from the free-throw line.

He did not play after Jan. 17 following a foot injury that required surgery, which will be something to monitor as he joins LSU's team. The 6-foot-7, 175-pounder is entering his final year of eligibility.

Bashir is ranked as the No. 130 overall player and No. 21 shooting guard in the transfer portal by 247Sports. LSU's transfer class is ranked 41st in the country by 247Sports, but the average player rating of 91.0 is the 18th best.

He started his career at Monmouth, serving as a rotation player as a freshman before breaking out as a sophomore and making the 2024-25 All-CAA First Team. He averaged 20.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 33 games, shooting 37.7% from the field, 38.3% from 3-point range, and 6.8% from the free-throw line.
