Tech3 discussing future with Honda as KTM’s financial worries grow

Talks between Tech3 and Honda have been ongoing, fuelled by growing concerns about KTM’s financial stability and long-term presence in MotoGP.

Since breaking away from Yamaha in 2019, the French outfit has partnered with KTM. The move into their eighth season together in 2026 had Tech3 only achieving a pair of wins from Miguel Oliveira in 2020.

Their current contract is up at the end of this season, and with the future of the Austrian factory up in the air, Tech3’s new owner, Guenther Steiner, has opened discussions with Honda.

The Japanese manufacturer is aiming to match Ducati by fielding six bikes on the grid come 2027. The money issues at KTM may open a way for Tech3 to change from RC16s to RC213Vs.

Bajaj Auto was said to be considering selling off Tech3’s bikes and keeping only the two factory team machines. While there was talk of scrapping it altogether, they’re now interested in seeing how Liberty Media might shape MotoGP before making any final decisions.

KTM’s instability has Tech3 looking for options since 2024

Tech3’s future has been uncertain ever since KTM entered insolvency at the end of 2024. Financial reports revealed significant debts, raising concerns about how long the Austrian manufacturer could remain involved in MotoGP.

Bajaj Auto stepped in to steady the ship with cost-cutting measures and financial support, but questions still lingered heading into the new season. That’s when Tech3 started weighing up their options.

There were also links between Tech3 and Ducati around this time, particularly as Gresini was rumoured to be moving on following Fermin Aldeguer’s switch to VR46.
