Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez had a terrible mistake on Thursday, May 14, after he failed to field a ball correctly that led to an inside-the-park home run.
Hernandez has been much better at fielding out in left field compared to his 2025 right field work across the board.
In terms of fielding run value, Hernandez was in the sixth percentile in 2025; entering Thursday, he was in the 53rd percentile.
He made strides in his physical health, losing several pounds, and the changes have more than paid off.

However, in the top of the fifth inning of the series finale against the Giants, Hernandez had a major blunder.
With a runner on first base, a rarity for Emmet Sheehan on a night where he was pitching lights out, Jung Hoo Lee hit a fly ball that landed near the line of left field, staying fair and quickly bouncing off the wall.
Hernandez somewhat gave up on the ball, thinking it was going to bounce and go over the wall for a ground-rule double or die somewhere near the edge, but it ended up having a nice kick that got away from him, which took him a second to notice.

Lee, one of the faster players in the league, was rounding the bases and noticed how poorly Hernandez played it, and took an aggressive approach on the basepaths.
He was sent home, and while the play was close, the relay throw ended up being too high, and it was ruled an inside-the-park home run that cashed in two runs at Sheehanâs expense.
Hernandez immediately apologized to pitcher Emmet Sheehan in the dugout, and after the game, he explained what happened.
âIt just barely touched together with the wall, and unfortunately the ball stayed in the ballpark,â Hernandez said.
Luckily, Hernandez went 3-for-4 with three doubles at the plate, more than making up for the error with his batting production.
He has been one of the hottest bats over the past week, and Hernandez managed to get past his mistake.
âWhen I make those mental mistakes, I try not to think about it,â HernĂĄndez said. âJust move on right away. Because I know it can affect me for the rest of the game ⊠Just go out there and battle, every at-bat, every play I get.â
Over his last seven games, Hernandez is hitting .375, helping power a recent awakening of the Dodgersâ offense.
Hopefully, the fielding error was just a one-off and not a sign of things to come.
