Terry Rozier Faces New Bribery Charges in NBA Gambling Scandal

The legal situation surrounding Terry Rozier just took another turn, with federal prosecutors signaling that more charges are on the way in the expanding NBA gambling scandal.

During a court hearing in New York on Monday, April 27, Assistant U.S. attorney Kaitlin Farrell said the government plans to file a superseding indictment by mid-May that would add counts of sports bribery and honest services wire fraud. According to ESPN, prosecutors told the court they have developed evidence suggesting Rozier both solicited and received a bribe tied to the alleged scheme.

The announcement shifted the focus of the hearing, which had been scheduled to address Rozier’s motion to dismiss earlier charges. A judge did not issue a ruling on that request, as attention turned to the potential new indictment. According to Rozier’s attorney, Jim Trusty, the defense was only informed of the additional charges hours before the hearing.

“Our motion to dismiss is based on the idea that they picked an invalid legal theory to prosecute Terry Rozier,” Trusty said. “We’ll see what they do to try to fix that in the superseding indictment, but I expect we’ll have problems with it.”

Rozier, who has been waived by the Miami Heat, has already pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering charges in connection with the broader investigation.

Earlier this year, he secured a key off-court win when an arbitrator ruled that the NBA could not withhold his salary while the case plays out, citing protections in the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
