The Houston Texans signed undrafted free agent Daniel Sobkowicz, a standout wide receiver from Illinois State, who recorded impressive stats in college. Sobkowicz had 163 catches for 2,249 yards and 28 touchdowns in his final two seasons.
The Houston Texans might have found a quality slot receiver in Boston College's Lewis Bond on Saturday in the sixth round of the NFL draft, but there was another name in the pass-catching department who caught the eye of scouts when he signed on to join the rookie class.
NFL.com's Chad Reuter revealed his top undrafted rookies following the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Texans could have a steal with a top 12 wide receiver prospect joining the fold. Although far from being a household name in the college ranks like Louisville's Cauillin Lacy or Cincinnati's Jeff Caldwell, the addition of Illinois State's Daniel Sobkowicz might be one of the best finds in the UDFA era, should he fit in Nick Caley's offense.
An FCS gem, Sobkowicz was the epitome of consistency during his time with the Red Birds. As a sophomore, the 6-foot-3 target caught 68 for a team-leading 923 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. That would be the last time Sobkowicz would ever finish with three numbers next to his name during his college career.
In his final two seasons, Sobkowicz combined for 163 catches, 2,249 yards and 28 touchdowns, including an FBS-leading 19 last season en route to a national title appearance in Nashville.

Sobkowicz could significantly enhance the Texans' offense, especially if he adapts well to Nick Caley's system, given his consistent performance in college.

According to scouts, Sobkowicz’s production stands out, but he lacks the speed and clear route-running skills to become a factor in the pros. While he's not considered fast, the ability to go for the touchdown ball nearly every snap could make him a name who eventually must see reps simply because of the production value.
No one should call Sobkowicz a lock to make the final roster, but he seems like an intriguing find who could be productive in time should Houston retain his rights. He'll have a chance to impress the right people and earn his way into the conversation of making the squad.
