The Houston Texans are leaving The Loop for Bridgeland when it comes to building their permanent indoor complex.
That doesn't mean that the AFC South team plans on leaving downtown altogether in the future.
Texans' primary owner and CEO Cal McNair told reporters on Monday, ahead of the Texans' annual charity golf event, that the franchise and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo have decided to make things work in Harris County for the future.
The Texans plan to continue making much-needed renovations surrounding Reliant Stadium ahead of the 2026 season and for the future.
“What we’ve talked to the Rodeo (about) is we’re going to make it work, and so we’ll figure out a way to make it work and have everybody a winner in this thing,” McNair told reporters at the event.
Earlier this offseason, it was reported that the Texans had begun negotiating a new lease with Harris County and the Rodeo, which expires in 2032. For now, that remains the plan, though conversations hadn't ceased on the franchise moving out of the country ahead of the lease agreement.
With McNair's comments on Monday, it's clear that the Texans' plans for the immediate future remain to stick around Reliant Stadium.
“The reason we feel that way is if you take a step back and you look at Reliant Park, the attributes of it, you have 350 continuous acres on major arteries with 610, and soon to be the third largest city in the United States,” Texand team president Mike Tomon said. “That is pretty special. So when we think about our partnership with the Rodeo, we’re both aligned on we’ll do everything we can to make it work on that specific site because we really think that can be transformative for the city of Houston.”
